Durham Photo Walk 2010: Part 1 - Macro - Ramblings and Photos

Durham Photo Walk 2010: Part 1 – Macro
This weekend was HOT…too hot to be outside between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm taking pictures in downtown Durham, but Natalie and I were troopers and toughed it out with the big boys for Scott Kelby’s Third Annual Worldwide Photo Walk. Actually, we had quite a good time – in between wiping the sweat off our faces of course.

I still have a number of photos to process, but I wanted to start sharing some of my favorites. First off, here is Natalie focusing on her subject – I honestly don’t know what she’s photographing.

We stopped by this old truck yard to photograph some old, rusting trucks. I was trying to capture my reflection here – you may be able to partially see my camera lens.

One of the guys on the walk suggested that I try my macro to capture rust. Thank God I brought my macro lens (although I really wished I had two camera bodies so I didn’t have to stop mid-session and change lenses) because rust is really interesting to photograph!

Whenever you’re sweating and see the word COOLANT, it seems like a joke…but I’m drawn to rusty stuff, so I’ll deal with the heat.

This old door was great. It said PUSH (obviously). Our group organizer said that he typically will have a group photo by the door (we didn’t have one here)…I personally think the area would be cool for engagement photos.

I don’t even know what this stuff is or what it’s used for but I love opportunities to capture depth of field…and this is great!

Again with the rust…it’s pretty cool to look at up close – makes for great macros.

This is one of my favorite shots from our photo walk – it’s abstract, it has a nice depth of field…I don’t know, I just like it.

Finally, this is another one of my favorite shots – I love the color and shape of this one.

What do you think? Do you have a favorite? If you also participated in the Scott Kelby Photo Walk, leave me a link to your images. I’d love to see where you were on Saturday. And for more Macro images, click here:
Macro Monday
Have a great Monday!

Way to capture the beauty and interestingness of rust! You are a great photographer.

Ended up going to one in Berlin at the last minute – can’t really tell where I was though as I did almost all of it with my macro (I’m addicted) lol. http://ladybarnett.blogspot.com/2010/07/worldwide-photowalk.html

Love these pics.. such great shots. A few of them would not show up for me though?!? May be something to do with my computer though.. who knows!

Thanks for sharing these.. they are wonderful

I love all of them. If I had to narrow it down to one I think I like the old truck the best. I know I keep telling you this, but every time I see your photos using your macro lens I just want to go online and buy one immediately. Looking forward to your next installment!

You make rust look good! Great pics :O)

Good for you for sticking it out through the heat. You’ve got great photos for your efforts. I like the truck photo with your lens reflecting in the headlight thing. Thanks for sharing. Awesome announcement too!

Thanks for getting me back! I love the tube ones and all the abstract ones.

Love them all! How will you choose just one for Urban?? :)

oh, i want a macro! but then it would take me forever to learn to use it….and i don’t know even really know how to use my camera yet totally.
loe the car shot and the rust ones are awesome!

There are AWESOME; no WAY could I choose a favorite! I love that grungy, urban look. These rust photos could give you some really cool “textures” to use for other pictures, don’t you think? So cool!

I wanted to stop in and let you know, I had to pass this award on to some bloggy friends I thought were fantastic, and I thought of you!

You take such beautiful photos! I love them all!

So many wonderful images! Looks like you had a great walk! I too love rust! It seems so colorful in photos. :) Love the push and would think it would be a great spot for photos! We love taking photos of our couples by weird signs, lol.

    AMAZING images!!! Absolutely!!!!

Beautiful pics! Your an amazing photographer!
    I’m a new follower!

My brother organized a Photowalk in Terrell, Tx the other day too – Texas Daily Photo, so congratulations to all!

You’ve got some great macro-shots there! I like them all but, I’m in love with the second AND the third last.
    Super job!!

OK, back for a 2nd peek. How bout you come watch my kids and I’ll go take pictures downtown, K?

These are fantastic pictures!! A photowalk sounds like a lot of fun!

These are great! I wish I could’ve been there. I love the old truck and the rust macros. I think my favorite is the last one- so cool!

Your photos are great. I can’t see what other shots you took. I agree that switching lenses would be hard. I brought another along, but never switched because it seemed to be too much trouble.

oh I love the last one as well of the piping. so cool! and perfect for the upcoming “urban” challenge :)

Wonderful photos! Love Scott Kelby…the photo walks seem great!!

Great shots! I love the rust. On one hand, I wish I had heard about the walk earlier, because there were two in Philly, but on the other hand, it was sooooo darn hot, I’m kind of relieved I didn’t sign up in time. You were definitely a trooper!

Love the pics! Durham’s pretty cool, from what I hear.

    these are awesome…
