Scavenger Hunt Sunday
Today is officially our one year anniversary, so it may be later this afternoon or tomorrow before I’m able to visit your blogs, but I’m excited to see everyone’s interpretations of the scavenger hunt items this week and I’m hoping we hit over 100 entries this week. Last week, there were 98 entries! So, if you’ve been participating in the Scavenger Hunt each week, I hope this week’s items didn’t scare you away. If you’re new to the Scavenger Hunt…WELCOME!
Scavenger Hunt Sunday

The rules are simple:
  1. Anyone can participate.
  2. You’re encouraged to take five new photos this week for the challenge.
  3. If you get stumped, you may use one photo from your archive (although I’m not too strict about it – I do my best to take fresh shots).
  4. Link up here on Sunday (or Tuesday at the latest) – you can use the button above.
  5. Have fun!
Honestly, this might have been one of the toughest weeks yet (at least for me). I don’t know what I was thinking when I a few of the items on the list (including faces formed in nature), but I almost put tilt-shift photography, self portrait (everyone seems to fear this one) and black and white with selective color (believe it or not, a lot of people really don’t like selective color) on the list…so give me a break. Granted, as you see below…I still incorporated a couple of those items as part of my interpretation for the week.

Before we get started, I wanted to again remind everyone that the October Photo Hunt list has been posted. Because I know how time consuming the Photo Hunt can be, I am selecting at least two items from the list each week as part of our Scavenger Hunt Sunday. So…if you’re interested, click on the link below to sign up.
Now for my interpretation of the items this week:

1. Side Lighting
Curlers RS
First off, for those of you that don’t know this…I don’t select the first item on our list each week. This item is meant to challenge your core photography skills such as lighting, shutter speed, etc. I wasn’t sure how I would approach this item until mid-week when I decided to do my self portrait. So many of you wanted to see the “curler” outtake shots, that I thought I’d put together a little collage. For those of you that had any reservation at all about me being crazy…you can put money on it now!

As with most homes, our light moves throughout the day. By the end of the day, we have some decent light pouring through our bedroom window. So, I decided to set myself up by the window. I don’t know if you can tell, but the light is hitting the right side of my face (if you’re looking at the screen).

2. Jack O’Lantern
Jack O'Lantern 2 RS
I’ve gotten many emails that this item was tricky as not everyone celebrates Halloween. I, personally, don’t carve pumpkins (not because I don’t like them of course)….so, I bought a jack o’lantern at Target the other day and photographed it with the lights off. I think it looks really cool.

3. Faces formed in Nature
Car Face RS
Faces formed in nature?! Yeah…I really struggled with this one. On Friday, we took my husband’s car to the Volkswagen dealership for service and I thought the VW bugs looked a lot like a face (another blogger also suggested that car grills look like faces, so thanks for the suggestion). After a little post-processing, I actually like this shot. What do you think?

4. Sunset
October 10 Sunset-Road RS
This is not my best sunset shot…I don’t think I have a great sunset shot, but it’s my only sunset shot this week.

5. Warm
Warm is one of those “left up to interpretation” type of items, so I can’t wait to see what everyone else came up with. After using my car’s seat warmer for the first time this fall, I thought yeah…that’s WARM! Do you like how I applied a little selective coloring?

What were your interpretations of the items this week? I can’t wait to check them out. Be sure to load your pictures in your blog (or your Flickr photostream) and link up at the bottom of this post.  Feel free to grab a button to display on your blog along with your scavenger hunt items. The linky will be open until Tuesday night at midnight (EST). If you didn’t participate this week, but want to participate next week, here are your items:
  1. The 5 Senses
  2. Child/Children (October 2010 item)
  3. Dining(October 2010 item)
  4. Night
  5. Sky
Have a great week and happy shooting!

    Have a great day Ashley!

Those pictures really show your personality :-).

Love the Jack O Lantern shot!!

I had a bit of trouble with this week too, but it got done! Love the curlers! The Jack O’Lantern picture is probably my favorite!

    Enjoy your day!

Nice collage. :D Love the curlers!

LOVE the Jack o’ Lantern!! Very cool.

And I like the processing on the vw bug. :) I’ve always thought they looked like faces.

LOVE those outtakes…too funny. Love the warm shot too! I have already started putting my seat warmer to good use!

Absolutelly great. Love the warm one. It’s so speciall and different.

You are too cute!!! I must admit faces in nature scared me away. I keep saying I am going to participate, but never seem to get all of the pictures taken by the end of the weekend. I’ll join eventually……promise. I did however get several side lighting shots this week. Maybe I will post those.

I am looking forward to looking through several of the entries, as I feel these were great challenges.

    Thanks for another fun week!

I love your Jack-o-Lantern shot! Very nice. And your side lighting shots made me giggle. :)

I failed this week! Your photos are great though, I love the jack-o-lantern shot, the light is really cool.

Love your fun outtakes… and your jack-o-lantern shot is really great!

Oh I love them all! The outtakes are awesome, such great stuff this week!

happy anniversary and congrats on a great turnout for the scavenger hunt! it’s so cool to see how many people you get participating every week. Love the outtakes and that you were willing to share them with us!

Didn’t you have fun with that side lighting selfie? The jack-o-lantern is my favorite this week. I have a friend who has seat warmer wars with her husband. They sneak turn each other’s on and see how long it takes the other to notice. Especially funny in warmer months. Happy day Ashley.

Love your side lighting shots and the Jack o’ Lantern is amazing! Nice sunset too!

I love your out takes! Great photos!

cute pics. Love them. next week I will have time for this one but this time am too busy.

Your jack-o-lantern photo is the epitome of Halloween! I also love your Warm shot – we don’t have them in our car, but I wish we did! It wasn’t such a big deal in CA, but here in New England, it would be amazing…

Happy Anniversary!!! They say the first year is the toughest. Well, guess what? You made it!!! So, about these fabulous photos. I love the collage. It cracked me up and I’m diggin’ the rollers. I love them all, Ashley! Good work!

I’m probably going to take a break from these incredibly fun hunts so I can gear up for the big one (I hate to double my work/time with youngins since you can only use two “freebies” for the challenge). :-(

I hope you all have fun on your special day!

    Happy Anniversary!

happy anniversary!!!! Great pics, you rock my socks hun!

Ashley… just had to laugh… I think you meant “tilt shiFt” LOL, :)

That shot of Jack is really cool!

    Happy Anniversary!!

the collage totally cracks me up {fav shot, last row in middle} i love your carefree spirit girl! also love your interpretation on warm, that’s my favorite in my hubby’s car :) happy anniversary to you & hubby, may you have many many more happy filled years & many many more chapters to write together!

Love the Curlers Collage! I’ve always thought lots of the front of cars looked like faces! The Joak-O-Lantern is neat, too! This is a fun meme as you give us an ‘assignment’ to complete.

I know this sounds really stupid, but the 5 senses in one picture?? How do I manage that one? Does that mean all five senses just being in the picture or all five senses working and being used in the picture?? I dunno! I know this is a stupid question!! LOL
    Sorry for being a bother.
    God bless

Great Job as always Ashley…love the collage of you and your Jack O’Latern…love it!!

I hope that you have a fantastic week!!

Love love the outtakes!!! You crack me up!!! The Jack O’Lantern is flipping amazing too!! Have a good week!

    Great ones Ashley…very creative interpretations!!

Even though I am one of those who doesn’t do Halloween (though I didn’t email you, I just decided to get a little creative with my interpretation) I really thought your picture of the jack o’lantern was a spectacular shot. I also think the VW bug does look like a face.

That Jack-O-Lantern is all kinds of cool! We can’t carve ours over here until a day or so before or they rot right away.

    Happy Anniversary!!

Hey sweets! Hope ya had a great anniversary – yippee! First off, your wedding pics on Friday (was it Friday?)…were STUNNING. You are one gorgeous gal; and pics like that are one of the few things that make me regret getting married at the Broward County Courthouse – LOL! Yep, that’s right. Amazing pictures! Love your self-portrait – ha ha – and your jackolantern pic makes me want to retake mine. BLAH! I thought mine was cool until I saw yours. Might just have to do a little re-do. TTYL!

Thanks for sharing your self-portraits in the rollers. You look beautiful even when you’re not trying. And that’s the truth! This week’s photo hunt was a struggle for me. Looking forward to shooting for next week’s themes.

    Cool photos as always.

that jack o’ lantern shot is amazing!! We haven’t done ours yet this year, so it was between using an archived photo or taking a picture of the window clingys. I used the archive. :)

I love your self shot photos….they are so much fun…

I love the curler shots! They are too cute and funny! The other shots are really good too!

LOVE LOVE LOVE that you put photos of yourself in curlers! Brave woman you are! And so cute and hilarious!

What fun! I love the collage of curlers! I like the lighting of the Jack O’ Lantern shot as well.

Hmm! nothing beats the first photo.

OK – I missed this week — life is just too crazy! But hopefully next week. LOVE love love all your photos – the jack-o-lantern is awesome! Hope you got to see some of my pics on facebook. I have this amazing shot of Oakley I need to feature this week too. Sometimes it is just ON! Not sure I can do the month October Scavenger – but ….

Also love that you are going to host the 10 of 10 – I used to do the 12 of 12 and I think he quit. It will be much nicer with quality outreach from your followers… :)

    Thanks Ashley -
Wish you were here photographing this beauty!

    : )

LOVE LOVE LOVE your “faces in nature” shot! It taught me to think out of the box more!

    I submitted my photos! :)
One thing I was wanting to suggest is maybe you could pick 1 favorite photo from each category each week so we can see some of the best photos. I would love to look at all of the entries but there are so many!! Just a thought I would love it if you considered it!

    Happy Anniversary! :)
Love this Scavenger hunt and your pics! Very fun!
