Papa Willie (my husband’s grandfather) loves collecting antique cars…actually most of the men on my husband’s side of the family love collecting cars. During one of my visits in 2008, he took me outside to show off his antique Cadillac (I’m not exactly sure of the model…I’m sure someone will inform me). I hadn’t even thought about the world of DSLRs yet, but I did have my trusty Canon Powershot SD1000 on me. When I saw Trendy Treehouse’s theme this week was “Zoom Zoom,” I thought it’d be a great shot to revisit.

I thought this photo would be a great candidate for a vintage look plus some texture, so I started by running the photo through a clean edit (I adjusted the levels, contrast and brightness) and then applying Nelly Nero’s Grunge Me Up action. I then applied Pioneer Woman’s Seventies Action. From there, I had a little fun with texture…here’s the recipe:
- Betty Jo’s Dirty Linen, Soft Light blending mode @ 100% opacity
- Kim Klassen’s Mustard Seed Texture, Overlay blending mode @ 20% opacity
- Seventies copy, Multiply blending mode @ 8% opacity
- Hue/Saturation adjustment layer
- Seventies copy, High Pass Filter @ 32% opacity
- CM Soft Grunge texture by Charlene McCoy, Linear Burn @ 20% opacity
- Soft Pink Color Fill layer, Screen @ 3% opacity
I used layer masks to remove some of the texture from the car…I then resized and sharpened for the web. I’m pretty happy with the final effect.
By the way, I am traveling today so I will return all emails and blog visits either later today/tonight or tomorrow. Have a great day!
