Scavenger Hunt Sunday
Before we get to Scavenger Hunt Sunday, I am excited to be guest blogging at Crafty Life and Style today. If you’ve been enjoying my Shoot and Edit tutorials, you’ll enjoy this one – I remove a bad orange color cast. So, if you have a chance, come visit me:

Now…back to Scavenger Hunt Sunday. I was not as prepared this week as I was last week. Most of my posting was done in advance, but I really procrastinated this week with the photo prompts. Did you find them as difficult as I did? Either way, if you’ve been participating in the Scavenger Hunt each week (and last week, we had 117 participants. Holy Cow!), I hope this week’s items inspired you…or rather, challenged you. If you’re new to the Scavenger Hunt…WELCOME! Next week’s items are sponsored by Mortal Muses, Exploring with a Camera (hosted by The Kat Eye View of the World) and PieniLintu.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

The rules are simple:
  1. Anyone can participate.
  2. You’re encouraged to take five new photos this week for the challenge.
  3. If you get stumped, you may use one photo from your archive (although I’m not too strict about it – I do my best to take fresh shots).
  4. Link up here on Sunday (or Tuesday at the latest) – you can use the button above.
  5. Have fun!
Without further discussion…here are my interpretations this week:

1. Memories
College Memories
This particular prompt was hard for me. I wasn’t sure how to illustrate memories, so I chickened out and took a picture of some pictures. HOWEVER, these pictures do have some sentimental value as they are of my college friends. From left to right…
  1. This is me with my college roommates…and was one of the last shots taken on the day I graduated from college. A couple of girls are missing from this shot but I loved living on campus with 10 other girls. You might think 11 girls in one house…yes, it could have been a recipe for disaster but I had awesome roommates. Now we’re all married and a few have babies…oh how life changes so quickly.
  2. This photo was taken in Disney World during Spring Break, Senior Year. Yeah, most people went to the Florida Keys, Cancun, etc…we went to Disney and LOVED IT! We piled into a mini-van and took turns driving down to Florida. Granted, if I remember correctly, I did a lot of the driving but it was sooo much fun!
  3. You can barely see the last shot but this is what my friends call “the family portrait,” also taken on graduation day. These are not my college roommates but I would call these girls some of my best friends. This particular group of friends is known for silly photos – my favorite: “Save Room for Ellen.” I’ll have to dig up that photo sometime. It’s a trip!
2. Silhouette
Crazy Tree Silhouette RS
So I may be cheating just a little bit. 1. This shot was taken a few weeks ago and 2. This is not a “true silhouette.” I was completely bored with the original image because the sky was pretty clear and it had been snowing. I thought it looked much cooler as an inverted image. I am much prouder of a silhouette I’m sharing tomorrow at the Mortal Muses.

3. Doorway(s)
Downtown Doors
Another cheating moment…I am seriously lacking some creative mojo this week. I pulled this shot out of my archives from last summer – during my photo walk in downtown Durham, NC. Look…FOUR doorways! For more doorways, go to:
Photography love...

4. Reflection
Reflection RS
Do you remember all the fun we had last month with the upside down tree trick? Well, I thought it might be interesting to bring out my 50mm and try to capture an interesting reflection while watching American Idol. I took several shots trying to get the color and lighting just right…totally worth it.

5. Silver
Silver Loop RS
I brought my macro lens to work on Thursday. I knew I needed to capture a few items and thought I might have some time to play. Well I had a few moments but I was lacking inspiration so my day planner fell victim. However, I still think it looks rather cool.

What were your interpretations of the items this week? I can’t wait to check them out. Be sure to load your pictures in your blog (or your Flickr photostream) and link up at the bottom of this post.  Feel free to grab a button to display on your blog along with your scavenger hunt items. The linky will be open until Tuesday night at midnight (EST). If you didn’t participate this week, but want to participate next week, here are your items (these can also be found at the bottom of my blog each week):
  1. Texture (current Mortal Muses’ prompt)
  2. Fog (Exploring with a Camera prompt – linky open starting February 2nd.)
  3. Button (PieniLintu‘s suggestion)
  4. Beverage or Drink (PieniLintu‘s suggestion)
  5. Seventies (PieniLintu‘s suggestion - could be interpreted as vintage 70’s image/product, a person in their 70’s or 70’s processing)

Again, thank you to the Mortal Muses, Kat and
PieniLintu for so many great scavenger hunt items. If you’d like to contribute items to the list, just leave me a comment or send me an email with your suggestions. Each week, I will select one reader’s prompt list, add those items to what is currently on tap and give the selected reader a shout out on my blog during Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for Shoot and Edit: Part 1, Week 3.  The prompt/theme is what says “good night” to you?
Happy Shooting!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the lens one! WOW! (I think it is way better then the upside down trees FOR REAL!)

I love your memories! That’s the beauty of having pictures like those! I do like the inverted image, and the doorways are awesome.

Love your doorways shot this week. The colors and textures are wonderful!

I have two blogs. My challenge is on my Round The Bend blog this week.

Your memories shot is perfect and your last macro IS cool and your sihouette is wow.. .what did you say that you inverted it so that the silhouette-ed tree became the subject? Or am I completely silly and missed something?! Either way it’s cool! :D

Amazing shots as always. I love your creativity.

I’m bowing out this week but hope to get around to look at everyone’s entries.

Your take on the memories shot is so creative. I really like it. I like how the first photo is in focus and by the last it’s out of focus. Nice job as always.

I’ve been meaning to try that lens trick. Love that shot … and the hubby and I are really loving the new Idol judges. Less whining this year. Yeah!

    Hey Ashley-
Love that doorways shot and the reflection of the lens is stunning….such amazing colors.
I sent you a big call for HELP, but managed to get my post up. Still would love any tips you can offer on the “out of space” thing.
    Have a great day.
    Susan

Great job as always Ashley,I love that your silhouette is reversed from what we would normally think of. And the lens shot is beautiful.

I totally chickened out on memories. I had lots of grand ideas but no time to bring them to fruition.

Always enjoy what ever photos you come up with. I have that same lens but never thought to use it as a prop. Hmmm.

all realy good the doors are awesome.

That planner shot is really cool – great idea and great processing!

Thanks for hosting this. I’m really enjoying finding my photos each week!

Glad I am not going to be the only one “cheating” I just didn’t find the time with redoing our living room. Though I could show of the new doors on the cupboards…

Love the sliver and refliction one.

Beautiful images as always! I’m looking forward to reading your guest post!

Absolutely love the doorways!! and the Macro shot is very fun!! I love paint! Have a beautiful week Ashley!

I really like what you did with the Silhouette shot, and the doors are a lot of fun as well. I’d have to say my favorites are the last two shots, the lens reflection is awesome, and I love the textures on the planner ring.

There must be something in the NC/SC air. Two people who just didn’t have the photography passion in them this week? MUST be something in our air!

Great collection and themes this week! Love your doors image.

    Happy Sunday!

I cheated too. My Memories I scanned from our family album too.

I like the silver. The ring binder macro looks abstract. Real cool!

I just realised that I forgot to comment when I linked in this morning. That doorway is pretty neat and I loved reading and seeing some of your memories. That must have been some house of fun at times and probably the best place for some clothes swapping too.

Awesome doorway shot! I haven’t been real inspired either lately, I’m blaming the weather.

I love your inverted silhouette–it looks so cool, almost like a drypoint etching!

ALL your shots are SO creative! The lens one is amazing, love those doors, and the silver one is just awesome! Again, so inspiring!

Such a lovely ecclectic mix of photos. Love your silver shot – really captures the lustre, fabulous!

I really like the negative and positive space of your silhouette photo. Really cool.

The doorway shot is really really awesome… but my *fav* is the reflection shot!!! WOW!! Love. Totally.

    Woof Ashley I’m in!
    I like your trees.

I still love your silhouette shot no matter – but I love the doorway shot, so great – and glad to be back!

Yep, love them all! Like I told you earlier… I saw them on my phone this morning and was like wow. Now I’m like WOW. Really great job always – your perspective on things is awesome! (Really, who else could make a binder look like art?)

OOOOOH I love your doors! We have an area in Bisbee that looks really similar to this!

Amber is right! I know exactly where she is talking about! You would LOVE Bisbee Ashley!!
