Shoot and Edit: Week 1 – A Touch of Snow SOOC
Welcome to our first Shoot and Edit weekly challenge.

This week our theme or prompt is to show us one shot SOOC that says “winter” to you (this is just a suggestion, you can show us any SOOC shot).  You have until Wednesday each week to link your SOOC shot up on Jill’s blog. On Thursday, you can link up your edits with ME after following some of my tips on how to edit your shots (or just post your edit on Thursday and you can pick up my tips for next week).

On Saturday, we received just a touch of snow. It was kind of weird…we were on our way to the gym and it was pouring in (although not really sticking). When we walked out of the gym after our workout, it was gone. Then an hour or so later once we were home, it did it again. I quickly pulled out my camera to prove that it had actually snowed. Here is my SOOC shot:

For those of you that are not used to looking at EXIF data, I thought it’d be helpful to share mine for the above photo (I pulled it from Adobe Camera Raw). According to this, it appears that my shot is under-exposed (it’s spiking on the left side of the screen – proper exposure is meant to have data across the spread)…however, I used spot metering on the snow as to not over-expose the snow…and not lose the detail. To be completely honest, I’m very pleased with the SOOC shot. On Thursday, I will keep my editing basic.

Next week’s theme is what says “good-morning” to you? With that said, be sure to check out other “winter” SOOC shots at:

I will be back on Thursday with an edit and some editing tips. I hope you’ll come back to post your edits too. Have a great Monday!

    Beautiful!!!
    Kisses and regards.

Thats a beautiful picture-SOOC worthy! Really doesn’t need work.
I’ll have to post mine later since the South is in a wild winter storm! :)

You’re killing me with another challenge I can’t resist ;)

Wonderful idea. I just posted my SOOC on Jill’s blog. I’ll figure out how to add the EXIF data next week. See you Thursday.

you know i love this shot already!

don’t forget to put your link in too :-)

Not a photographer in the slightest so the terms in this post are completely foreign to me but the photo is amazing… always love your work.

    Love that simple shot.

We got about 6″ overnight and it’s supposed to continue off-and-on today. So exciting for the boys!

I took the new dog out for a walk and 1/2 way thru the blizzard hit. For about 15 minutes. The dog had snow accumulated on her nose though :) Look today no school!
    Lovely shot :)

    YOUR BLOG IS SUPER COOL!

Cool!! Snow can be tricky to shoot, so I can’t wait to see what your finished product looks like!

    Okay! I’m excited =]

ahhh snow – all we got was crummy weather and rain!

I love that shot! It’s snowing as i type this too:-)

Oh, this is killing me! I have no winter shots because, hey, it’s cold outside and when I’m outside I’m all about keeping myself from freezing to death. And now I actually want to do this and this week it’s all -20! With any luck…

Beautiful shot! Looking forward to your edit on Thursday.

I too love your SOOC. Great photo.

Oh wow. I was thinking that I needed to venture outside more in the winter with my dSLR and was out in my backyard this weekend taking some shots. Boy, I really could’ve used some of your (and Jill’s) shooting tips … it was a total fail for me. I might just take you up on this challenge to edit.

Great SOOC. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Love the litte touch of snow! ;)

    Awesome! I’ve linked up! :)

What a beautiful capture with awesome focus. Love the contrast between the snow and dark bushes. ♥

Very nice! Not only did you capture the fleeting snow, you also captured that the snow was fleeting. It sure doesn’t look like it’s going to stick to those leaves for long. :)

What a gorgeous shot, it’s so crisp! I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the edit; it’s already great as is.

LOVE your SOOC!!! I’m curious to see how you can improve it….ps….having trouble with your button code for this challenge….it’s showing up as text….hope you had a Happy Monday!

I love this shot – it looks pretty as is, i’ll be interested to see your editing of it!

Just like all of your photos….gorgeous!!! I’m excited to do this challenge & learn lots from the best!! xo

So pretty! Can’t wait to see you work your magic on it! Thanks so much for hosting and for being willing to teach us all! :)

beautiful shot! I can’t wait to see how you edit and follow along!

I woke up to a fresh inch of snow! Delightful! :)

Love the delicacy of this. Looking forward to seeing the edit and thanks for hosting the challenge! Quite excited to join in and learn a few things. :)

This is a great shot Ashley! Do you always use Adobe Camera Raw to import your images? I am struggling with shooting RAW versus JPEG. Thanks!

P.S. – Love the reception shot and your water droplets – great job!

Oh! Love the deep dark green against the slight hint of snow! I rather like the sooc shot, too!

Absolutely lovely shot! Looking forward to the edits:).
