Shoot and Edit: Week 11 - Flowers SOOC

Welcome to the 11th week of Shoot and Edit: Part 1. Click HERE for all the details and upcoming prompts/themes.

This week our theme or prompt is “FLOWERS" (this is just a suggestion, you can show us any SOOC shot).  You have until Wednesday each week to link your SOOC shot up on Jill's blog. On Thursday, you can link up your edits with ME after following some of my tips on how to edit your shots (or just post your edit on Thursday and you can pick up my tips for next week).

I actually took this shot last week before our beautiful Bradford tree blooms turned green. It just so happened that I'd just gotten my new 50mm f/1.4 lens, so I was anxious to give it a whirl. Here's my SOOC:
Flower SOOC RS

Flower EXIF

In my opinion, I think this shot needs little more than my typical clean processing. So, I am in the process of working on a "Nice and Easy" action for you that will include nearly all of the clean processing steps we've discussed. The only thing it may not include is your curves layer since many previous versions of Photoshop Elements do not have a curves function built in. As if you couldn't tell, I'm still working on it.

I'd also like to explore the artsy filters, so I brought a photo out of archives as an example. Here is my SOOC:
Pink Flower SOOC RS

Pink Flower EXIF

There are so many fun artsy filters that I hope you'll enjoy a little experimenting this week (alright...so I tend to experiment every week, but now that SPRING has officially started, I've got a fresh wave of inspiration). Next week’s theme is “green," and I plan to discuss the true color of grass. With that said, be sure to check out other "flower" SOOC shots at:
Have a great Monday!

By the way, be sure you click on the button below for tips on becoming a "Word Verification Free" blog.

Lucky you on getting the new lens!
I'm still waiting to get a DSLR...sob...though I'm still undecided as to which camp to go into: Nikon or Canon. Which do you suggest?

Lovely flowers. Congratulations on your new lens. 50mm, f/1.4 really does wonders, especially when placed in very good hands.

Can't wait to see your edit!! I'm looking to upgrade my 50 1.8 to the 1.4 sometime this year. Can you tell a huge difference? I heard it's pretty incredible!

I really like the second shot, what flower is that?

That lens is on my wish list so it's great to see its possibilities before purchase and I loved that camera shot with it yesterday aswell. That's a great little shot with the blurry background.

Well I'm looking forward to your artsy tutorial - I love artsy as you already know :)

I laughed when I saw you talk about the true colour of grass - if only you knew how fussy I am about my front lawn.

Beautiful photos; those flowers make me happy despite the fact that it's currently snowing outside my window right now (!!!). I have to admit though, I did chuckle a little at the "true color of grass"; since our lawn is so weedy, it's more like brown with greener patches.

Jamie said...

With snow in the forecast I needed beautiful flowers like this to prove today was the first day of spring.

Those are really pretty Ashley.

My son is excited for the true color of green because he learns things like that in school all the time & he thinks it is fantastic when it is applied elsewhere :) See you then.

That first photo is just lovely! (And I'm still chuckling over my brother's reaction to your camera this evening) I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the editing department this week! It was so nice getting to meet you in person--I hope we can do it again some time! :)
