Shoot and Edit: Week 27 – Skies the Limit SOOC
Welcome to the 27th week of Shoot and Edit: Part 1. Click HERE for all the details and upcoming prompts/themes and past tutorials.

This week our theme or prompt is “Skies the Limit” (this is just a suggestion, you can show us any SOOC shot…much like I did this week). You have until Wednesday each week to link your SOOC shot up on Jill’s blog. On Thursday, you can link up your edits with ME after following some of my tips on how to edit your shots (or just post your edit on Thursday and you can pick up my tips for next week).

I interpreted our theme this week to mean anything, so I went outside yesterday afternoon with my camera and an open mind. It must have been 1000 degrees outside so I kept it brief – interestingly enough, I felt inspired by this mushroom…so inspired that I leave you with TWO SOOC shots.
Mushroom 1 SOOC RS
I took the above shot with my 50mm f/1.4. I absolutely love the depth of field I’m able to achieve with this lens. After taking this shot, I decided I might like a macro perspective so I changed lenses.
Mushroom EXIF 1

Mushroom 2 SOOC RS
As you can see, this shot was taken with my 105mm macro lens. It does not have image stabilization so it was all I could do to stead myself on the ground without getting covered in mulch.
Mushroom EXIF 2

Much like last week, I have no idea what I’m going to do with either of these photos. It’s quite possible that I’ll do another clean edit, but if you have any ideas…I’m definitely open to suggestions. With that said, be sure to check out other “Skies the Limit” SOOC shots at:

on the topic of mushrooms…my hubs and I were on a walk yesterday morning and came across a bright red/orange/yellow mushroom! I swear it looked fake because it was huge and quite hard and looked almost tropical. lol. I took a pic of it too! Hope you had a great weekend friend!

Great shots. I especially like the 2nd one – perfect depth of field.

Silly me, thought it had to be a sky picture. My intent is to join in this week for the first time. I reeeeaaaalllly want to if work doesn’t get in the way, and if skies the limit, I should be able to find something to work with. Thanks.

I love the super close-up macro shot!

I love the texture of the mushroom in the 2nd shot! I’m curious to see how in the world you’re going to make these better!

Lovely shots! I love the texture of the mushrooms and the DOF! Yep it is hot, and I find it so much harder to get outside when it is so hot that I sweat just thinking about it.

Hot here too. And loud storms. Great mushroom shots.

I sold my macro lens, now you have me all jealous :)

I sold my macro lens, now you have me all jealous :)

Really great closeup! I love the color and clarity of it.

Seriously that is one ugly mushroom!

A very beautiful shot! I love the editing!
    Have a wonderful week,

Love that second photo. So cute. It was sooo hot yesterday. Can’t wait to see your edit.

Loving the macro shot! Nice work, I can’t wait to see your edit!

    Great lighting!

The macro totally does it justice! Making me hungry for some sauteed mushrooms!

Can’t wait to see what you do with these! Enjoy that 1000 degree weather. You’re more than welcome to come kick it in the 50-55 degree range with me!

Please forgive me if this is a really stupid question… but can I join w/ my little point & shoot? Obviously theirs a ton of shot’s I can’t come close to, but it may be fun trying! Please don’t think I’m the biggest dork ever?!!! ? Btw, the mushroom shots are very cool.

We have the creepiest mushrooms around here. That one’s cool! Did you eat it after the shoot? :)

    Cool perspective!!

You may have already done this, but a tutorial on sharpening for web vs. print. What are your typical settings (ie. threshold, pass filter only, etc.) Do you save 2 copies? So I could go on and on. Just an idea

I love the depth of the picture!!! Great capture. :)

Can’t wait to see what you do with these. I really like the tones in these shots. :)

I love mushrooms! I was a big fungus shooter when we lived in MO, haha ;) Excellent photos, but look forward to your edit as usual :) Happy Monday!

    wow, truly stunning shots!

    Very interesting shots! I love the macro. I don’t need a macro lens, I don’t need a macro lens, I don’t…

Whatever you do with these I’m sure will be terrific!

    Beautiful Ashley!

I love that macro shot. :)

    Like your macro shot. Amazing.

I love your eye for the tiny details! I can’t wait to see what you do with those.

Beautiful! I love the macro shot.

A, so fun to find your comments on my blog lately. You found me just as I was leaving on vacation so I haven’t had time to respond! I just scheduled a bunch of posts to go live while I was gone so I haven’t been ignoring you! I am up at friend’s cabin and am finally getting a chance to drop you a note. Anyway, love your comment love. I am excited to come home and explore your site and photo stuff. LOVE connecting with other photogs.
    Blessings to you!

These shots are great SOOC, I so want a 50 mm f/1.4 lens.

Ha! So do I get to leave cc for you too??? :) I was thinking of interpreting the prompt the same as you, but then I saw that awesome sky and had to use that instead! :)

I definitely like the macro shot — it’s so close it almost looks abstract and would have made me think twice before figuring out it was a mushroom had I not seen the first. I’m not sure what to do to improve it, because that’s just what I would have wanted to capture! ha! I also like the shot with the 50 — makes me think there’s a fairy living under those shrooms… but on this one I’d maybe have opened the ap a bit more to make it more dreamy — seeing I’m picturing fairies! :)

    Have a great night, doll!!

A 50mm f/1.4 really does great wonders in capable hands. Have a great week!

Awesome shots!! I truly love them both!

I really like the texture and the depth of field in both photos! Who knew that a mushroom would look so nice?

the DOF and detail look awesome!

    holy macro! amazing shots!

Great shots – and I got reminded that I really, really want a macro lens! :-)

Oohhhhh!!! I’m missing a macro lens in my life! I adore my 50mm 1.4. But since I use the 50mm 99% of the time, I think I may eventually want to get the 50mm 1.2!

Oh, I like that mushroom too. Wonderful shots! They are beautiful and intriguing. Sometime I forget to notice the simple things.

WOW! The first pic was nice but the edited is AMAZING! Love it!
