Shoot and Edit: Week 28 – Summer SOOC
Welcome to the 28th week of Shoot and Edit: Part 1. Click HERE for all the details and upcoming prompts/themes and past tutorials. This week our theme or prompt is “Summer” (this is just a suggestion, you can show us any SOOC shot…much like I did this week). You have until Wednesday each week to link your SOOC shot up on Jill’s blog. On Thursday, you can link up your edits with ME after following some of my tips on how to edit your shots (or just post your edit on Thursday and you can pick up my tips for next week).

Much like last week, our theme this week could go in a number of directions. However, when I think of summer, I think of kids playing in the backyard (or the pool). This past weekend, I went home to hang out with my family – the weather was perfect so I was more than happy to spend a little time outdoors. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any kids playing…and photographing kids that are not your own is a bit weird (in my opinion – unless it’s a portrait session). I did find an empty swing set and basketball goal though. Here’s my SOOC:

Playground EXIF

I’m really liking the way the trees frame this shot – I also love the light. My histogram says it’s a bit under-exposed…I’m not sure I agree. Like I mentioned last week, I’m running out of ideas for Photoshop/Photoshop Elements tutorials. I am in the process of identifying guest tutorial writers (and if you have some suggestions, please let me know). In the meantime, I plan to do two things:
  • Edit one photo from our FLICKR GROUP. If you are interested in me potentially editing your photo, just add it to the group (make a note in the comment section within flickr if you’re adding it to the group but don’t want it edited by me).
  • I’ll also edit my photo. I will not write a tutorial but I think I’ll let you guess what is different.

With that said, be sure to check out other “Summer” SOOC shots at:

Have a great Monday!

Sometime I’ll have take part in what you and Jill are doing… It sounds like so much fun! Maybe I’ll do it this week — but can I edit with Picnik?
    Much love!

Cool photo. I will be back to link up later. I stayed at my parents last night.

Perfect summer pic! I love how the trees frame your pic and are dark, but the play gound is brighter! :) I’m excited to join your fun this week (I finally have time!)

I love the trees framing the shot too!

Feel free to edit my shot :-D I did mine already and will be neat to see what you do with it.

Haha – mostly I get normal word searches too, like “tinajo” or whatever, but sometimes these fun ones appear and I´m very much amused by them! :-)

Kind of has a magical feel to it. Looks like a cool place to play.

Lots of potential with this one. I’m not sure I agree with your histogram either. I rather like the dark trunks of the trees with the sun peaking through.

That looks like a child’s paradise :) I too love the natural framing in the shot!

can’t wait to see the edit!

I can’t wait to see your edit! BTW, I tried the vintage polaroid set you had mentioned – it’s really wonderful – thanks so much for that!

I like how the trees frame the shot. Looking forward to your edit!

Cool shot! And as a beginning photographer/blogger, I can always use more tutorials to learn from :)

    This Good Life

great picture! :) i will definitely have to link up sometime :)

Kids playground definitely summer. I miss “summer” when one didn’t have to work and it was all about play.

Lovely shot. It screams summer to me.

Yep swingset screams summer, I love the trees framing the shot (like you said). Can wait to see the edit!

This is a great shot Ashley. I too, love the way you’ve framed it with the trees, and I think there is something about an empty playground that is really quite fascinating and peaceful. So nicely done!

The composition of this is very lovely, and you can still see the details in the trees so I agree it isn’t underexposed. The contrast of the light and dark is really cool and gives this shot something beyond a snapshot–almost crossing thresholds? I don’t know, I do know I love it!

you always have such great ideas on your blog! I wish I had more time so I could participate in all of them! I don’t know how you do it, but it’s so interesting going through your posts and seeing all the different things you’ve worked on. :)

great to see your photo, the lighting is really great with the shadows as a frame.
I need to read more about your blog and all the link ups/ tips/ photo shares you have going on to catch up! oh, i’m such a newbie…

What a fun shot – can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Love the shot! I miss joining in – been at the trailer for weeks, and the wifi isn’t working. :(

My little phone barely does your pics justice! :) But wanted to say hey and I hope the wifi is fixed here soon!

It gives me the feeling of a playful hideaway quietly discovered! Makes me want to run in and swing silently for just a moment before everyone else follows!

p.s. you are welcome to my “teen swing” in flickr if it charms you at all.

This photo makes me want to go to the park and play with some kids. I love the lighting! :)

Ok I left some comments on your pic on flickr – and I’m agreeing with you — the histogram isn’t truth telling this time — this is when us as humans know more than a computer!
But just to have it here anyway, love your shot! I feel like I’ve just come upon a treasure!

Feel free to edit any of mine in the sooc flick group whenever! :) I’m cool with it! And I kinda like the guessing game!

Also, I just saw tonight that there’s a flickr group for the edits — yay!! :) I was going to suggest that to you, but I see you beat me to it. Hope you don’t mind that I joined already… although my edit isn’t in there yet. Going to wait and see what you say on Thursday before submitting it!
