Tutorial Tuesday: Guest Tutorial – Shooting Silhouettes

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday! Sarah of Naptime Momtog and I will be bringing you a new challenge every week, to stretch your shooting and editing skills. This week we have another guest tutorial from Jaymi about silhouettes. Here is a little bit about the lovely lady behind our guest tutorial this week:
My name is Jaymi and I blog at Live, Love, Travel. I am 30 years old, an ex Film Student from Cal State Long Beach and now I work in the TV industry in LA. I love to travel the world; my last two trips were to Paris and Bali and before that I’ve been to Taiwan, Prague, and most of Western Europe. I have spent the last year or so actively trying to learn and improve my photography and I love to blog about my progress so that others can learn as well!

Jaymi’s tutorial today is all about shooting silhouettes. Be sure to click HERE (which will take you to Sarah’s blog) to read her full tutorial…and see some of her beautiful silhouettes – my favorite of which is her jumping silhouette (below on the left). Unfortunately, I haven’t had much luck in the past shooting silhouettes (other than one of my favorite shots of Kitty Paw – below on the right) so I will personally be taking a lot of notes…and hopefully trying it out as soon as I get a little sunshine and a willing subject.

PS: If you have any photography or editing suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let Sarah or me know! We would love to feature your tutorial.

I love that kitty shot! Thanks for featuring me!

Beautiful shots! The jump shot is magical and Kitty Paw is always sweet…

    Love Kitty Paw’s shot.

I love this tutorial- I will have to see what I can capture in the coming days.

BTW- I did try the last one yesterday, however with the sharpening that the tutorial mentioned, it created a bad halo & it made the rest lose the effect. I will have to give it a try again & maybe do that part a bit different. I’m sure I was doing something wrong. So I will have to keep practicing.

This was such a great tutorial! Not sure my year old will be the best subject for this kind of shot! Lol) looking forward to trying this out soon!

    Thanks ladies!

A great tutorial. My problem is getting that horizon as my landscape is native trees, orchards and vineyards, and my model is 66 and cannot leap around LOL. We are going to a near by lake at sunset and see if that is better. I also do not have a cat that is will stay put, she runs away when she sees me with the camera. Cheers

i am having trouble leaving comments, it seems the Google identity does something weird. Great shooting everyone.

Do you have a Pop Art tutorial? :)

I am really enjoying all the tutorials and am learning so much. Jaymi’s photos and the kitty are great!
