Tutorial Tuesday: Using Reflectors
Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday! Sarah of Naptime Momtog and I will be bringing you a new challenge every week, to stretch your shooting and editing skills. This week we are talking about how to use a reflector while taking photos.

Sarah and I both own this reflector. Much like her, I don’t have a reflector stand or a paid assistant. To be honest, I have only started to use my reflector during portrait shoots. In most cases, I ask my client to assist me…which works great when you’re photographing babies because it gives their parents something to do. Had I only been using my reflector a year ago!

Be sure to go to Sarah’s blog for some tips on using your reflector: click HERE. In the meantime, here’s a recent example of my portrait work using a reflector. While I was shooting, Adeline’s grandmother was holding the reflector.

Her eyes are gorgeous! Perfect use of the reflector. I need to take mine with me more often!

I love this photo, it’s so pretty and her eyes are to die for.

I just ordered that reflector the other day. Now I have a tutorial on how to use it.

    Thank you.

i’m so glad you posted about this! i don’t know much about reflectors but really wanted to start using one to bounce some light. yay! thank you so much for generously sharing your knowledge!

Her eyes are GORGEOUS and now I want a reflector. Your editing is amazing! Congrats on the baby girl also!

The speaker in our photo club just told us about the use of reflectors last month…now I have to have to have one! This child’s eyes are so marvelous, and as always, your photography captivates!

I used a reflector for the first time for my january newborn shot and it really made a lot of difference in evenly lighting the newborns face in a dark kitchen. This is a darling shot of that little girl! :) Speaking of I should probably take one to my 6 month baby session today! Thanks for the reminder! :)

I love reflectors and I do have stands and sandbags… but most the time I use a VAL…usually a Mom or Dad…but for catch lights and fill light, in our East Texas wind I have found that speed lights off thee camera is way easier when I am on my own… with much better control…

such a cute shot, I just love her eyes!

what a amazing catchlight in her eyes! just a gorgeous photo!! i love your tutorials!

Great photo, Ashley! I don’t have a reflector yet, but it is definitely on my wish list.

Such gorgeous blue eyes and beautiful catch lights! I think I need to add a reflector to my wish list! :D

Love this tutorial as I use my reflector all the time. Will be showing some pics of people in the coming days- having so much fun since my new one arrived. YAHOO!!

Ashley, your baby portrait is just beautiful! It’s so hard to do the reflector AND shoot…so those mamas are a big help. LOVELY!
