32 Week Bump Report and Maternity Photos (Part 2)
Bedroom MaternityThis past weekend, I met up with Casey Martinez for a second round of maternity photos (you most likely know her from her personal blog: One Day at a Time). You may recall that I had a first round of maternity photos taken by my girl, Sarah Halstead, just a couple of weeks ago. Looking back at those photos taken at 29 weeks, I really feel as though I look pregnant…minus the fact that I definitely FEEL pregnant.

You may have already seen these photos on Casey’s facebook page (if you follow her), but I also thought I’d share them here…in addition to my weekly bump report. So without further ado, let’s see what’s going on in my belly.

How far along: 32 weeks (technically, 32 weeks and 3 days today).

How big is the baby: Our baby weighs approximately 3.75 pounds  and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in my uterus. At this point, roughly half of my weight gain goes right to our baby. In fact, she’ll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next seven weeks as she fattens up for “survival” outside the womb. I’d love to know how much she’ll actually be at birth – part of me thinks that she’ll be a big baby like me (I was 9 lbs 3 ozs), while the other part of me secretly hopes for a birth weight closer to my husband (something like 6 lbs). Either way, she is GROWING!

Total weight gain: I’ve been so tired and sore lately that I wasn’t sure that I’d get in the gym to weigh myself…she’s clearly been growing a lot which means she’s rolling, kicking and moving her head around all day long. However, I  did manage to make it on Thursday for a proper weigh in. Since last week, I’ve probably gained another 1.5 lbs for a total of 19 lbs since the start of my pregnancy.

Sleep: Not the easiest these days. Kitty Paw still wants to sleep on top of me and I’ve been tossing and turning a lot the past few nights. Each time I need to roll over, it’s an event. Oh…and getting out of bed – geez! blogboard2
Maternity Clothes: You mean the tents I’m wearing? Just kidding. Actually, I was in Stein Mart the other day when a random woman stopped to ask me when I was due (for the record, these conversations feel incredibly awkward to me). I responded “August 1,” to which she said “you think you’ll go that long?” I must have given her a look because she recovered with, “and what are you having?” “A girl.” “Oh, how wonderful…congratulations.” I know she meant well, but was she really suggesting that I’m so big that I can’t go full term?

Me at 32 weeks - CaseySo…I asked a couple of trusty co-workers – one male, one female. My male coworker and his wife just had their 3rd child – we’ve been sharing pregnancy stories for months so I felt like he could give me an honest answer. He told me that I was hardly “big,” but that I was bigger than I was a week or two ago. Alright…I guess that’s fair. So, I then went over and asked my female coworker…a mom to two girls. She told me that a lot of people aren’t used to the modern pregnant lady who feels comfortable wearing fitted clothing (aka ME). Women used to cover up their bellies by wearing flowy tops or dresses. As a result, you never really knew how pregnant they were because it was hidden. Me on the other hand, I proudly show off my belly, so there’s no illusion.

I still think the comment was a bit rude, but I guess I’m now at a point where I’ll starting getting these types of comments more and more. More the reason for me to keep looking cute in my maternity clothes.

Best moments of the week: Definitely meeting up with Casey for maternity photos – even my husband was there. Since then, I have been completely exhausted.

Food cravings: Nothing really, although I kind of want pancakes right now.

Food aversions: Nothing new.

Symptoms (another repeat from last week):
  • Circulation issues…check.
  • Heartburn…check.
  • Flat belly button…check.
  • Lower back pain (on and off all day)…check.
  • Veins…check.
  • Increased butt size (this makes me cry and laugh at the same time)…check.
  • Braxton Hicks contractions…check.
  • Exhaustion…check.
Exercise: Limited, but still going. I really thought I could work out all the way through my pregnancy, but I hardly have the energy for it…at least this week.

Movement: I think I read that I’m in the peak week for movement…and that from this point forward, she’ll be moving less and less. With that in mind, she is really trying to take advantage of any room she has left right now to kick and squirm.

Gender: STILL Girl!

What I’m looking forward to: our Baby-Q tomorrow afternoon. It’s going to be epic!

What I miss: Still missing my energy – please please come back soon.

Next Appointment: June 15th.
Ashley and Jeremy - Field Shot by Casey Martinez
Thanks again Casey for taking such beautiful photographs of me and my baby daddy. Now I just need to have these (and Sarah’s photos from a couple of weeks ago) printed.

You’re looking great Ashley. Shape and size varies person to person, baby to baby. Some women who look “smaller” may be carrying less fluid around the baby. Seems all your symptoms are “normal”.

Beautiful as always, Ashley! You look so happy – just beaming! People are rude, but sometimes, I think they are just thoughtless, and say something because they don’t know what to say! When my mother was pregnant, at 39, with my sister, someone looked at her, obviously pregnant and said, “Are you PREGNANT?” with that rise in the voice…my mom, who is very quick-witted, answered…”No, I am just carrying this for a friend” and walked on. That was before the days of the surrogate moms, so it definitely left the offending speaker speechless, and my mom chuckling as she walked away. (That was 42 years ago…but I still remember it to this day!)

I love the photos she took and the moments she captured between you and Jeremy. Yay for 32 weeks. Seems like your pregnancy has gone by so fast. I don’t think you look that big. People can be do rude!!

You are looking fabulous and your commitment to keeping fit shows. Love reading your posts. It won’t be long now. Valerie

I love ALL these photos, especially the ones of you and Jeremy. They are so sweet, and definitely show the love in your soon-to-be family of 3. :)
I know what you mean about those awkward conversations. I had people asking me at 30 weeks if I was having twins. And when I replied no, they always looked really shocked. And I didn’t gain that much either – it was all belly in the front! My point – people are rude and awkward when it comes to pregnancy talk – just 8 more weeks and then you’ll be getting awkward questions like, “What’s his name?” when she’s all dressed in pink with bows.

I don’t know if this will be a comfort because every pregnancy is different, but I got a second wind with both boys 3 weeks before I gave birth.

I am hoping your zapped energy comes back, chica. It is probably the worst part of being pregnant. Its frustrating because we all want to do everything but our body says no. wahhh!

You look beautiful. Love that you show off that marvelous baby bump. Great photos of you and your husband.

Awe, Casey did an awesome job, you are such a cute little pregnant lady!!! :0) Don’t feel bad, I regularly got the “Are you sure it’s just one baby?” comment – which for the record is something you should NEVER ask a pregnant lady!!!!!! Anyhoo, you look good and I think your female co-worker is right!

Awesome photos. I think having your hubby around was a good idea. You look relaxed and happy. You both do. So beautigul to see. Kudos to Casey for capturing such a wonderful moment in your life so well. Makes me wish I had some pregnancy shots taken by another photographer.

Well, back under the rock I go. I’m no longer doing the blogging thing but this post made me smile so I thought I’d chime in. You’re near the home stretch. Good luck. Keep smiling. God bless.

hehe… yes, some people have the best of intentions, but just can’t quite pull them off!! Yeah you for showing of your belly (proudly)! :) Try to let them just roll off your back! I remember back to a Sunday morning about 3mo after J & I got married — I wore this cute floor-length maxi dress and all the church ladies came over and rubbed my belly (hardly had a pooch) and congratulated me on being pregnant and asked when I was due (and if that was the reason why we got married so young) OUCH! Talk about being rude! (b/c I was NOT pregnant!!) So…. I’d say, just let those silly people slide… :)

Looking great lady!!! Love those pics, too! Especially the close up ones with you and J!

You look amazing & the pictures are beautiful! You two look so happy!

Your photos are super sweet! The same thing happened to my daughter last year. She is tiny and had a big ‘bump’ and people would say oh you won’t make it THAT long…they were wrong and she had an 8#6oz boy natural birth. You look lovely and just right for 32 weeks!

You look adorable, and these are great photos!! Before I had Taylor people were telling me there surely had to be more than one baby in there ~ I was enormous!! You are just too cute!! I think your co-worker is right…women used to “hide” their bellies so it was hard to tell. I can hardly wait to see her :-))

As someone who gave birth to a 8lb 1oz babe and a 9lb 1oz babe, you are FAR from big! You’ve got an amazing belly-seriously you could be in a maternity magazine!

I think these pictures are my favorite, especially that last one. You guys are going to be the best parents ever!

Hey Ashely, I just love reading your bump updates! You are looking wonderful and what gorgeous pictures! I don’t think you are all that big. I wish I had a picture of myself at that many weeks; trust me I was much bigger ;o) It’s getting close, I bet you are so excited!

you are so beautiful! and these turned out amazing!

You and your baby daddy look so great : ) I am glad you had this fun experience!

    You do pregnancy well :)

So beautiful, can’t stand it! LOVE the you & hubz kissy pics)

Oh my! Beautiful photos! So glad the pregnancy is going well!

These photos are so lovely – you are looking absolutely radiant.

I knew she would do a phenomenal job. These are GORGEOUS. I love those intimate moments of you two. Certainly times you will cherish forever. I so wish I had done this at least once.

Oh gosh…. These are stunning shots!! Well done Casey!!

These are gorgeous Ashley! What sweet moments ;)

Love these pictures. I could actually go for round 2 myself since I’m so much bigger now but my beloved Melanie is gone so no such luck for me. You’re looking great and NO, you’re not big!!! People say the darnest things.

Such fun shots, and great updates. It’s so nice to hear how things are going for you.

As far as the woman, you just never know. I always cringe when I hear conversations like that. Some people just have no filter! (And for the record, you look AMAZING!)

These photos are absolutely gorgeous! I love your dress and you don’t look that big!! I love all the shots of the two (three) of you. So special to have!!! You are glowing and beautiful!

So excited for you! Love the photos! :)
