I have a hard time believing that it’s August 8th…seriously? Time really flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it? Anyways, I felt like I really slacked off this week because I waited until the last minute to pull together most of my scavenger hunt items and then I found myself posting multiple shots for each item. As always, I’m really excited to see everyone’s interpretations of the scavenger hunt items and I’m hoping we pick up a few new bloggers today and tomorrow (hint hint).
- Anyone can participate (although it started in a photography board on The Bump).
- You’re encouraged to take five new photos this week for the challenge.
- If you get stumped, you may use one photo from your archive (although I’m not too strict about it – I do my best to take fresh shots).
- Link up here on Sunday (or Monday at the latest) – you can use the new button.
- Have fun!
Now for my interpretation of the items this week:
1. Shadow or Silhouette
I submitted a different photo for POTW Thursday, but after Friday’s post about Hearts in the Clouds, I’ve been on a mission to really find some hearts in the clouds. As we were driving home yesterday afternoon, I spotted some so I pointed the camera out the window for a couple of shots. I love the tree silhouette in the top photo. Can you see the hearts?
This second photo is SOOC (straight out of the camera), but again, I wanted to show off the hearts in the clouds. For more SOOC shots, go visit The Slurping Life and Murrieta 365 at:
2. Motion Blur
I shared a couple of these shots the other day from Raleigh Wide Open, but I reserved these for the Scavenger Hunt because of the motion blur.
ISO 100, f/22, 1/6 sec, 50 mm
3. Magazine
My husband and I love to travel. When we started imagining our honeymoon, he started collecting travel magazines for potential destinations. On our list: Greece, Italy, South Africa, Australia and the Caribbean. A few of those destinations are a little unrealistic for one week and we ended up going to St. Maarten – which we loved. However, we still love looking through travel magazines and hope to visit those other destinations soon!
4. Ten
I decided for my “TEN” photo, that I would photography ten of my new custom postcards that I just ordered from Moo.
I decided to use Moo for my postcards after joining Postcrossing. I found it very difficult to find cute postcards (I can find all kinds of cute cards, but postcards were challenging) so I decided that I would print my own photographs. There are other services out there that will print and mail your postcards for you, but I didn’t like that I would never get to touch or write the postcard myself. I really appreciate that personal touch. There are other services like Vistaprint that will print 100 postcards for free through various promotions, but you can only choose one design…again, I didn’t want to send everyone the same post card. With Moo, I was able to choose 20 designs (I could have chosen 60 with a larger order) for 20 unique post cards. I was also able to customize the back a little. Overall, I’m really happy with them and will definitely use them again. Now, I just need to get some stamps.
5. Glass
I was originally going to use the above photo this week to represent glass. However, I didn’t take the photo within the past week (I took it during the Photo Walk two weeks ago), so I felt a little guilty for using it even if I’ve never displayed it for the world to see.
Then, just yesterday, we were at the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ festival in Cary, North Carolina. As we walked into the festival, we exchanged our tickets for a tasting glass (your ticket included all the beer, bourbon, and other alcohol you could drink). After we found a nice shady spot on the grass, my husband was so kind to find me something I would like, since I don’t really like beer or bourbon (my friend, Jenn, actually thought I’d be drinking at the designated driver table). The above shot is of him holding my glass of Woodchuck Pear Cider – I love the bokeh in the back and the cider was rather tasty.
What were your interpretations of the items this week? I can’t wait to check them out. Be sure to load your pictures in your blog and link up at the bottom of this post. Feel free to grab a button to display on your blog along with your scavenger hunt items. The linky will be open until tomorrow at midnight. If you didn’t participate this week, but want to participate next week, here are your items. As promised, I’m including TWO August 2010 Photo Hunt items (one of these is a bonus, I can only commit to including one each week, but I may decide to be more generous).
- Mood (also your POTW theme)
- Something Masculine (August 2010 Photo Hunt item)
- Something Feminine (August 2010 Photo Hunt item)
- Your first or last initial (I would be looking for either the letter A or S)
- Architecture
