Today is officially our one year anniversary, so it may be later this afternoon or tomorrow before I’m able to visit your blogs, but I’m excited to see everyone’s interpretations of the scavenger hunt items this week and I’m hoping we hit over 100 entries this week. Last week, there were 98 entries! So, if you’ve been participating in the Scavenger Hunt each week, I hope this week’s items didn’t scare you away. If you’re new to the Scavenger Hunt…WELCOME!
- Anyone can participate.
- You’re encouraged to take five new photos this week for the challenge.
- If you get stumped, you may use one photo from your archive (although I’m not too strict about it – I do my best to take fresh shots).
- Link up here on Sunday (or Tuesday at the latest) – you can use the button above.
- Have fun!
Honestly, this might have been one of the toughest weeks yet (at least for me). I don’t know what I was thinking when I a few of the items on the list (including faces formed in nature), but I almost put tilt-shift photography, self portrait (everyone seems to fear this one) and black and white with selective color (believe it or not, a lot of people really don’t like selective color) on the list…so give me a break. Granted, as you see below…I still incorporated a couple of those items as part of my interpretation for the week.
Before we get started, I wanted to again remind everyone that the October Photo Hunt list has been posted. Because I know how time consuming the Photo Hunt can be, I am selecting at least two items from the list each week as part of our Scavenger Hunt Sunday. So…if you’re interested, click on the link below to sign up.

Now for my interpretation of the items this week:
1. Side Lighting
First off, for those of you that don’t know this…I don’t select the first item on our list each week. This item is meant to challenge your core photography skills such as lighting, shutter speed, etc. I wasn’t sure how I would approach this item until mid-week when I decided to do my self portrait. So many of you wanted to see the “curler” outtake shots, that I thought I’d put together a little collage. For those of you that had any reservation at all about me being crazy…you can put money on it now!
As with most homes, our light moves throughout the day. By the end of the day, we have some decent light pouring through our bedroom window. So, I decided to set myself up by the window. I don’t know if you can tell, but the light is hitting the right side of my face (if you’re looking at the screen).
2. Jack O’Lantern
I’ve gotten many emails that this item was tricky as not everyone celebrates Halloween. I, personally, don’t carve pumpkins (not because I don’t like them of course)….so, I bought a jack o’lantern at Target the other day and photographed it with the lights off. I think it looks really cool.
3. Faces formed in Nature
Faces formed in nature?! Yeah…I really struggled with this one. On Friday, we took my husband’s car to the Volkswagen dealership for service and I thought the VW bugs looked a lot like a face (another blogger also suggested that car grills look like faces, so thanks for the suggestion). After a little post-processing, I actually like this shot. What do you think?
4. Sunset
This is not my best sunset shot…I don’t think I have a great sunset shot, but it’s my only sunset shot this week.
5. Warm
Warm is one of those “left up to interpretation” type of items, so I can’t wait to see what everyone else came up with. After using my car’s seat warmer for the first time this fall, I thought yeah…that’s WARM! Do you like how I applied a little selective coloring?
