I cannot even believe it’s already October. In fact, I didn’t mention it last week…mostly because it sneaked up on me. But I welcome October with arms wide open…cooler temperatures, long sleeves, pumpkin spice lattes, the changing of leaves…I welcome it all. Of course, I might be singing a different tune if I lived in a cold state, but I live in North Carolina – it’s still in the 70s and 80s here (don’t hate).
But enough of my ramblings…if you’ve been participating in the Scavenger Hunt each week, I hope this week’s items inspired you. If you’re new to the Scavenger Hunt…WELCOME! Next week’s items are sponsored by Paper Heart Camera and Pieni Lintu.

- Anyone can participate.
- You’re encouraged to take five new photos this week for the challenge. Creativity is also encouraged!
- If you get stumped, you may use one photo from your archive (although I’m not too strict about it – I do my best to take fresh shots).
- Link up here on Sunday (or Tuesday at the latest) – you can use the button above.
- Leave comments for at least five entries around yours (we have so many new participants each week, this is the only way I know to be inclusive).
- Have fun!
Without further discussion…here are my interpretations this week:
Last weekend, the sky looked incredible. This is just one more reason to have your camera on you at all times. Of course, my husband insisted that if I just waited…I would have an open highway shot, but I love having a little context: cars, bridge, etc. Look at all that green…you’d hardly know that it was October by the looks of this scene. You can also tell that I was feeling like a vintage postcard when I processed my photo.
2. Complementary or Triadic Color

“When you combine four colors from the color wheel, either equally spaced as a square or unequally spaced as a rectangle, you have a tetrad harmony. A square tetrad incorporates two complementary pairs. Surprisingly, these color combinations are balanced and create a lot of depth in an image.”

Non-technically speaking, I took this photo at Versailles. It may actually be my only “macro” image as I really focused more on architectural details.
A couple of weeks ago, I think I mentioned that I practiced a little night/blurred photography. A tripod would have made this exercise a little easier, but one of the biggest lessons I learned was to focus on a non-moving object (I think in this case, I used the buildings) and then slow down your shutter speed. It may not be perfect but I really like the effect.
Candy corn is food…right?
Um…negative space? I have no idea…but I did take this the other night while we were stuck in traffic on the way to visit my in-laws. Our side of the highway was bumper to bumper…the other side of the road, not so much.
What were your interpretations of the items this week? I can’t wait to check them out. Be sure to load your pictures on your blog (or your Flickr photostream) and link up at the bottom of this post. Feel free to grab a button to display on your blog along with your scavenger hunt items. The linky will be open until Tuesday night at midnight (EST). If you didn’t participate this week, but want to participate next week, here are your items (these can also be found at the bottom of my blog each week):
- Abstract
- Round (Paper Heart Camera prompt)
- Fire (Pieni Lintu’s suggestion)
- Seeing Faces in Strange/Unexpected Places (Pieni Lintu’s suggestion)
- Stars (Pieni Lintu’s suggestion)
Again, thank you to Paper Heart Camera and Pieni Lintu for so many great scavenger hunt items. I’ve actually got several weeks worth of prompts waiting in my inbox, but if you’d like to contribute items to the list, just send me an email with your suggestions (I can better keep track of them this way…and we’ve got some great prompts coming up in future weeks). Each week, I will select one reader’s prompt list, add those items to what is currently on tap and give the selected reader a shout out on my blog during Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Also, be sure to come back tomorrow for Shoot and Edit: Part 1, Week 40. The prompt/theme is “Leaves.” Happy Shooting!
